Asalaamu alaykom wa rahamatAllahu wa barakatu.
The International Union of Muslim Women would like to invite you to attend a
special session that will be taking place at the ISNA (Islamic Society of North
America) Convention this year in Chicago. The session will be celebrating the Life
of Sister Aminah Assilmi who passed away in March 2010 and Brother Dawud
Tauhidi who passed away in June.  Please come to the session if you are already
attending the convention.  Share your memories and your love for Allah and for
these two people who devoted their lives in the service of Allah.
I am so very glad
that I am a Muslim.
Islam is my life.
Islam is the beat of
my heart. Islam is
the blood that
courses through
my veins. Islam is
my strength. Islam
is my life so
wonderful and
beautiful. Without
Islam I am nothing,
and should Allah
ever turn His
magnificent face
from me, I could
not survive."

Assalamu Alaikoum and
greetings to those of
you who have missed
being able to contact
the
International
Union of Muslim
Women
.  The purpose
of this website is one
step towards keeping
Muslim Women
informed about, aware
of and ready to respond
to the ongoing
challenges faced by
Muslimas.
As we have seen in the
media and in our own
neighborhoods, attacks
on women in general
and Muslim women in
particular, have been
on the rise.  But by
uniting together, we
have made great things
happen.  There is a
reason why the Prophet
(PBUH) admonished his
followers (MEN and
women) about the
respect due to Mothers
in particular and women
in general.  Women
ARE the teachers an
nurturers of future
generations and when
society forgets this
basic concept,
civilization falls.
Insha'Allah, this page
will help Muslim Women
and Ansari come
together to educate,
enlighten and
sometimes entertain
each other.
Cancellation of a
training exercise that
had defenders
+protecting" a military
facility near Reno,
Nevada,  from Arab
garbed Muslim
"Terrorists" from the
fictitious country of
"Lydia."
Providing letters of
explanation and
information to schools
and employers about
the rights of Muslim
girls and women to
cover Islamically and
how to handle cases
of harassment.
Getting millions of
signatures on
petitions that were
presented to the
United Nations in
support of the women
of Bosnia who were
being raped and
terrorized because of
religious persecution.
Implemented the
campaign that led to
the creation of the first
U.S. stamp that
acknowledged
Muslims in the U.S.,
the Eid stamp.
The following are the details on session 6C:

ISNA Convention but is NOT listed in the Printed program
due to printing deadlines.  Please make a note of it and
make sure that you let others know of this event as well.

My Sisters and the occasional Brother who happen to come upon
this page,

Asalaamu alaykom wa rahamatAllahu wa barakatu.

This is Sister Nadiah.  I will be speaking at the above session of
the ISNA convention and would really appreciate it if you would
attend so that we can share our memories and celebrate the LIFE of
Sister Aminah.  It is important to remember her life, because she
gave her life to the service of Allah.  She once said that "every day I
have to choose to be Muslim."  And every day she did.

There is a verse in the Quran, 2:154

And say not of those who are slain in the way of God:
"They are dead." Nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not.

It is often interpreted as speaking of those who are killed in
battle.  Even though her death was a part of a car accident, Aminah
was still fighting a battle, a battle against ignorance and oppression.
She fought discrimination and prejudice and for all Muslims to follow
the Quran and Hadith without having it "re-interpreted" by so called
scholars who put culture or political ideology before Islam.  She died
just before reaching home after spending several weeks in New York
doing dawah and counseling some individuals and groups.  Her
weapon was not a steel sword but the words of Allah and a Loving
heart that encourage the good in people.  I miss her every day, but I
look forward to a time when we will be together again.  Join Us.

We have had some problems
with responding to all of the
people who have been emailing
us or sending us letters.  We
now have Sister Imane, a
Muslima originally from Morroco
helping us. Please be patient
while we reorganize our mail
alerts, upcoming events,
available speakers and future
organizational goals that we
need to focus on in order to
truly provide the services that
Muslim Women need to have
available to them.
There is still so much work
for us to do.  With the recent
passing of Aminah Assilmi
we are still trying to find  a
home for the headquarters
of the IUMW in the United
States and a choose a new
Director

.  Additional projects include:

Educating businesses
and employers about
Muslim women in the
workplace.
Introducing business
to Islamic holidays and
helping them avoid
problems with
marketing to Muslims
Providing multi-
religious calendars so
that more equitable
school and event
planning can avoid
scheduling gaffs.
Provide a forum for
Muslim women to
voice their concerns
and help make
changes within their
local, regional and
national arenas.

In other news, IUMW will be opening an online e-store in the near future.  It will
have a very small offering to start with, including some of Aminah's books, but in
order to do some of the many  things that need to be done, we need to generate
revenue.  Too many people are facing major money problems at this time and by
selling some merchandise, we will be able to help fund the website without
constantly seeking donations.
 YOUR DONATIONS ARE STILL
APPRECIATED!!!
(Including items that you would like to donate that we can sell
online. Please contact Sister Nadiah for details)

The Eid stamp has been available since 2001 and the only change has been
in mailing rates.  IUMW will soon be starting a new campaign to update the
design for the Eid stamp and will again be asking for your help.  It takes a lot of
'lead' time for designs to be approved and then made into stamps available for
purchase.  It also takes a lot of interested and committed support.  If you are
interested in getting involved, please go to the "contact us" bar above and to the
left and sign up.  In your email, please indicate that you would like to be a part of
the New Eid Stamp Design Project and we will be happy to accept your help!
