Implemented the

the creation of the first
U.S. stamp that
acknowledged
Muslims in the U.S.,
the Eid stamp.
If you want to see the power of women, look at Iran.

During the recent disputed elections in Iran, many Muslim
Women came out to participate.  Many were unhappy with the way
that the Revolutionary Guard ignores what Islam says are the rights
of women, and deals from a cultural framework instead.
If a government wishes to be recognized as being Islamic, it
needs to follow Islam and not restrict and rescind the rights of its
people because it wants to stay in power.
There are many disturbing reports coming out of Iran that
leaders of several women's groups have been arrested and/or
beaten.  Claims have been made that the punishment was meted
out because the women were not following Islam.  In a minority of
cases this is probably true.  But it is also true that the protesting
women are focusing attention on issues that the Government would
prefer to have ignored.

Muslim women who know Islam can be the most powerful force
for change in a society, whether Iran or the USA. Allah has given
us the tools, so teach your children, both boys and girls.  Give them
the power of Islam so that when facing oppression and
discrimination, they are strong enough to keep their faith and help
others on the path to Allah.

And Pray for out Sisters in Iran, in Afghanistan nd anywhere
else where they are being unjustly dealt with.
IUMW NOTES AND NEEDS
Alhamdu Allah, Aminah had cataract surgery on one of her eyes on the
14th of October.  Her sight in that eye is now 20/25 and she is scheduled to
get the other one taken care of in about two weeks.  Please pray for her.
Needless to say, she is having some problems with dealing with computer
screens during the healing process, but InshaAllah, she will be back
answering your email's as soon as possible.

In other news, IUMW will be opening an online e-store in the near future.
It will have a very small offering to start with, but in order to do some of the
many  things that need to be done, we need to generate revenue.  Too many
people are facing major money problems at this time and by selling some
merchandise, we will be able to help fund the website without constantly
seeking donations.
 YOUR DONATIONS ARE STILL APPRECIATED!!!
(Including items that you would like to donate that we can sell online. Please
contact Sister Nadiah for details)

The Eid stamp has been available since 2001 and the only change has
been in mailing rates.  IUMW will soon be starting a new campaign to
update the design for the Eid stamp and will again be asking for your help.
It takes a lot of 'lead' time for designs to be approved and then made into
stamps available for purchase.  It also takes a lot of interested and
committed support.  If you are interested in getting involved, please go to
the "contact us" bar above and to the left and sign up.  In your email, please
indicate that you would like to be a part of the New Eid Stamp Design
Project and we will be happy to accept your help!  Shukran Jazillian.
There is still so much work
for us to do.  Currently
Aminah Assilmi is trying to
find both a place to live and
a home for the headquarters
of the IUMW in the United
States.  Additional projects
include:

Educating businesses
and employers about
Muslim women in the
workplace.
Introducing business
to Islamic holidays and
helping them avoid
problems with
marketing to Muslims
Providing multi-
religious calendars so
that more equitable
school and event
planning can avoid
scheduling gaffs.
Provide a forum for
Muslim women to
voice their concerns
and help make
changes within their
local, regional and
national arenas.

Welcome to the new home of the
International Union of Muslim Women
Assalamu Alaikoum and greetings to those of you who have missed
being able to contact the
International Union of Muslim Women.
The purpose of this website is one step towards keeping Muslim
Women informed about, aware of and ready to respond to the ongoing
challenges faced by Muslimas.
As we have seen in the media and in our own neighborhoods, attacks
on women in general and Muslim women in particular, have been on
the rise.  But by uniting together, we have made great things happen.
There is a reason why the Prophet (PBUH) admonished his followers
(MEN and women) about the respect due to Mothers in particular and
women in general.  Women ARE the teachers an nurturers of future
generations and when society forgets this basic concept, civilization
falls.
Insha'Allah, this page will help Muslim Women and Ansari come
together to educate, enlighten and sometimes entertain each other.

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Assalaamu Alaikum,

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon. Our beloved sister, Aminah Assilmi passed
away this morning in an automobile accident.

We pray that Allah (SWT) will shower His mercy on this sister and grant her the
highest level of Paradise - Jannat Ul-Firdous - and give her family patience in
this difficult time. Ameen.

Insha Allah, we will announce funeral arrangements as soon as they are
scheduled.

Sister Aminah Assilmi, Director of the International Union of Muslim Women,
Author, Advocate of Women’s Rights, and Renowned Speaker died early this
morning while returning from a speaking engagement in New York .

Sister Aminah and her son, were in single car accident just outside of Newport
Tennessee where she had been living for just over a year.  The car accident
happened just after 3am and it appears that Aminah was killed instantly.  Her
son Mohammad was taken to a hospital in Knoxville .

Aminah had some health issues, but still maintained a rigorous schedule of
speaking engagements to many communities around the country and around
the world.  She was instrumental in getting the Eid stamp issued in 2001 and
had been planning to start a campaign to have the stamp reissued with a new
design in time for its 10 year anniversary.  She was also trying to build a Center
for Muslim Women’s Studies that would serve as a place where converts could
learn about Islam and the basics including how to pray etc., as a retreat, and as
a summer camp for Muslim children.

Funeral arrangements are being arranged through
